



Sung Hwan Kim intertwines video, performance, music, drawing, and architectural elements to offer a complex visual storytelling that explores the relationships between social structures and embedded history, memory, migration, and psychological traces. Based in New York, Berlin, Honolulu, and Seoul, he assumes alternating roles as a director, editor, performer, composer, and poet.
His major solo exhibitions and screenings have been held at institutions including the Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul, 2024), ZKM Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe, 2024), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven, 2023), The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) (New York, 2021), daadgalerie (Berlin, 2018), Artsonje Center (Seoul, 2014), Tate Modern (London, 2012), Kunsthalle Basel (Basel, 2011), and Queens Museum (New York, 2011). He has also participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (2017), Gwangju Biennale, Busan Biennale (2022), and Hawaiʻi Triennial (2022). His works are included in the permanent collections of the Leeum Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Tate Modern, and Van Abbemuseum.
